Last Job Standing®

THE PC Model Framework

What It Is

THE PC Model™ is trying to assess job vulnerability to AI automation over a 10-year horizon from the date the article is written. Rather than just asking "Will AI replace this job?" it asks "How will this job transform, and what defenses does it have?". All ratings are trying to project 10 years forward, which itself is hard given AI's unpredictable development pace and a potentially changing regulatory environment.

Note: These projections represent our current analysis of a rapidly evolving job market. We encourage readers to apply critical thinking and develop their own informed perspectives.

The Five Factors (0, 0.5, or 1 star each)

T - Turf Protection: Barriers to Entry

The combined regulatory, institutional, and economic barriers that prevent automation from entering this profession. This includes licensing requirements, union protection, and situations where automation costs exceed human labor costs. Strong turf means even if AI could do the job, humans remain protected by these barriers.

H - Human Connection

Need for genuine empathy, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal understanding. Covers reading social dynamics, managing stakeholder conflicts, providing emotional support, navigating the messy intersection of human needs.

E - Ethical Judgment

Complex moral decisions requiring human values, cultural context, and accountability. Includes life-or-death choices, interpreting gray areas, decisions where someone must be held responsible.

P - Physical Presence

Work requiring direct physical presence and real-time adaptation. Includes medical procedures, emergency response, skilled trades, managing physical chaos.

C - Creative Innovation

Spontaneous creativity, improvisation, and original thinking beyond pattern recognition. True innovation versus iteration, turning unexpected situations into opportunities.
